1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember things between pages and visits — that you are signed in, for example. This policy also covers similar technologies such as local storage, pixels and software development kits, which do comparable jobs.
2. Why we use them
We use cookies to keep you signed in, to keep your account secure, to remember your preferences, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it, and to detect fraudulent or duplicate accounts. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about you, and we do not share cookie data for cross-context behavioural advertising.
3. The categories we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site and member area to function — signing in, maintaining your session, load balancing, and protecting forms against abuse. These cannot be switched off, because without them the panel does not work. They do not require consent.
Functional
Remember choices you have made, such as your language or display preferences, so you do not have to set them again.
Analytics
Tell us which pages are visited and where people get stuck, in aggregate. We use this to fix problems and improve the panel, not to identify individuals.
Security and fraud prevention
Help us identify duplicate accounts, automated traffic and manipulation of study responses. These protect the integrity of the research and the members taking part honestly.

5. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by providers acting on our behalf — typically an analytics provider and our hosting and security infrastructure. They may only process the data for the purposes we specify, under contract, and not for their own purposes. Their own privacy notices explain how they operate, and we list current providers on request.
6. Cookies inside surveys
Studies are often hosted on specialist survey platforms. Those platforms set their own cookies, usually to stop you accidentally submitting the same survey twice and to resume a partly finished response. These operate only for the duration of the study and are covered by the platform's own notice, which is linked at the start of the survey.
7. Managing cookies
You can control cookies in several ways:
- Through our cookie preferences, where available on this site.
- In your browser settings, which let you block or delete cookies. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge each publish instructions.
- Using private or incognito browsing, which clears cookies when you close the window.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you signing in and taking studies. That is a limitation of how sessions work rather than a choice on our part.
8. Do Not Track
Browsers vary in how they implement Do Not Track and there is no agreed standard for responding to it, so we do not currently respond to those signals. We do honour recognised opt-out preference signals where the law requires it. Since we do not sell or share personal information for behavioural advertising, there is nothing to opt out of in that respect.
9. Changes
We update this policy when the cookies we use change. The date at the top reflects the current version.
